MY SECOND HOME

COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE AND FINE ARTS (CAFA) Building is what I considered as my second home. The place where I am molded and trained to become an outstanding architect in the future. What's so good about this building? CAFA BUILDING is an American Style building and its design is nice. This is what I often hear from other people who are not architecturally knowledgeable.. And they describe the building basing on what they simply see. But there is more to say about the building...

CAFA Building is just one of the buildings of University Of San Carlos- Technological Center. It stands in the midst of the so-called “forest” of the University of San Carlos where the Arnold and Janssen church is also located nearby. Endowed with a great panoramic view of the city, the building is a work of its own great-minded professors. The surrounding area has a park-like landscape; some even say that it’s an airport terminal. The ambience when you’re in CAFA is far different from the other buildings. Others would say that they feel like they are outside the Philippines.

As you enter the building, you can find an image of Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian man, also called The Proportions of Man being illuminated by the skylight above the atrium. It is a symbol of the essential symmetry of a human body. The location of the building and its varying land contours are the factors why the designers came up with the split-level type of building. The straight lines defined by the ramps and passages make it a linear form that indicates a direction.

Unlike other buildings in our school. Aside from ordinary classrooms, we have also our own drafting studios as our workplace. Because it is split type, the drafting studios are placed adjacent to other drafting studios, arranged according to year level .This is to allow the students to roam and observe other students works. Well, even in all the stresses caused by our plates, we also have time to play and enjoy. The drafting studios served as our resting place after our classes. We hang out there, listen to music when we're bored and draft of course.

CAFA has also its own theater, the lecture hall- for small seminars or for thesis defense and the main theater for major activities. Because it is the first building in the Talamban Campus who has its own theater, the building is frequently visited especially during seminars and even other colleges' activity.

The building reflects the kind of education the school offers. Each parts of the building are made by combined efforts of its own instructors. That is why I never regret that I enrolled in this school. I learned a lot and I am inspired by my mentors. The environment is soothing, away from the stress and air pollution.
